A Campaign that Reflects Governing Priorities
The way I am developing my policy platform is the same way I will, if elected, advocate for and pursue policies in the legislature. The Oregon State Legislature does not need politicians who think that issues are simple and that their solutions are obvious.
This campaign recognizes that all issues that the legislature faces are challenging and complex and that the consequences of every action and inaction by government is sometimes impossible to predict.
This campaign recognizes that experts, while fallible, are often better informed on issues specific to their field than politician can be.
This campaign recognizes that wisdom is acquired through experience and through reflections on those experiences, and thus that every citizen is the expert on what is in his or her family’s best interest.
This campaign recognizes that every legal association of citizens has legitimate interests that must be respected and taken into consideration.
Therefore, this campaign is developing its policy platform by having deep discussions with subject-matter experts and with the residents who will be affected by the decisions of government. It is not good enough just to say that a policy is positive on the net. Every individual on both sides of a debate has a dignity that is worthy of respect.
Democracy, at its best, wields the collective wisdom of all the people, not just the limited wisdom of one or more elected officials or that of any one political party, and is thus the best way to govern.
To these ends, this campaign is holding periodic issue discussions to help develop a platform that is informed by both experts and residents. Whether you are an expert on the subject or not, whether you have something to say or just want to listen, whether you’re left, right, or center, we want you to join us as we campaign for a better politics for Oregon.

EDUCATION Learning should be the cheapest investment a person can make. A strong democracy requires an informed citizenry. We need to invest in early childhood education all the way though adulthood. Learning doesn’t need to stop at graduation. In a changing world, continuing education as an adult connects us to our community, society, and allows us to be more informed citizens. We also need to examine how we can improve our education system to be more effective for all types of learners. |

ENVIRONMENTClimate change is the greatest challenge of our generation. We need to face it head on by growing a green economy that reduces carbon, protects habitat and threatened species, and supports those communities most effected by a changing environment. Oregon can and must be a leader around the world on this issue. |
Move Oregon's governance toward more fiscal responsibility and progressive social changes that support and respect all Oregonians.
Who we areEach of us brings diverse ideas, culture, and perspective that makes this state our home. |
GOVERNMENT transparency

infrastructureOregon’s infrastructure is an investment in our future. Roads & bridges. Transit systems & airports. School, emergency response & government buildings. Power transmission lines & generation facilities. Dams and dikes. All these components are key to safety and a thriving economy. Failing to invest now will cost more down the road.

civil rightsIn the United States of America, we must celebrate people for who they want to be. Diversity of ideas. Diversity of culture. Diversity of people. Our differences are what make the world better. We must protect those who cannot protect themselves. Our state and our country is amazing because we are a community of migrants and this gives us strength.
|
BUSINESS & ECONOMYA job gives a person dignity. As a state, we must support our small and local businesses. Small and local businesses are the heart of our economy. We must diversify our economy where it makes sense by investing in emerging technologies that improve the lives of people and our environment.
|
HOUSING & HOMELESSNESSAffordable housing has moved beyond the reach of many Oregonians. We need to find creative solutions to nudge the free market economy to provide affordable solutions to this problem. The state and municipalities must play a role. We also desperately need to find solutions to house the homeless among us, in our urban and rural communities. No just society should look on as its citizens sleep and die on the streets.
|
HEALTHCAREIn a country as wealthy as the United States, healthcare should be a right for all citizens. We must provide a basic level of services to all people. We also must tackle challenges of mental health head on. Our failure to address mental health exacerbates other challenges including crime, homelessness, unemployment, and other problems.
