GROWING UP
As a native, 6th generation Oregonian, active member in the community, and avid outdoor enthusiast, I experience and shared in the joy of Oregon’s natural beauty, Portland’s vibrant culture, and community engagement. I was born, and grew up, in NW Portland. As a kid, I loved to play soccer, run, spend time in the great outdoors, and learn. I attended public schools including Chapman elementary, West Sylvan middle, and Lincoln high. I went on to attend universities in Oregon, the District of Columbia, and Ecuador before graduating with a Certificate in American government, a Bachelors in political science, and a juris doctor in law. While attending school, I enjoyed four years competing in the Olympic Developmental soccer program and ran division 1 track at the University of Oregon.
My family lives spread across the United States. My fiancé is a doctor focused on alzheimer's research at OHSU and building a medical program in the Maldives. My mother is a nationally recognized public transportation planner who has helped design transit systems across the Nation. My Father has led organizations focused on improving homeless, housing, environmental, and community development issues, primarily in Oregon. My sister is an environmental biologist who specializes in the study of human-wildlife interaction in America and internationally. We also have a cat named Spock and a dog named Piper.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
In Oregon, I am a member of the Oregon Bar. I have encouraged healthy communities by using my legal, policy, budget, and legislative experience to reduce and suppress wildfires at the Oregon Department of Forestry, staff the state legislative offices of Senators Richard Devlin and Jackie Dingfelder, and help dozens of non-profits navigate state natural resource budget issues with the Oregon League of Conservation Voters. In 2020, I organized and ran an ultimately unsuccessful campaign for a seat in the Oregon State Legislature to represent the district I grew up in (more info through the tab up top). I serve on an Oregon Wildfire Incident Management Team, and have spent time volunteering as a medical first responder, teaching outdoor education to youth, serving in community groups, and distilling spirits at one of Oregon's oldest distilleries. I have enjoyed the extensive redesign and remodel of two 1900 homes in Portland, and manage a home owners association.
In Washington, D.C., I worked on transportation, clean energy, and natural resource policy and budgets. I worked at Transportation for America, the National Complete Streets Coalition, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and with America Walks. I worked closely with Congress, the White House, federal government agencies, and the Department of Defense. My life's work has been to work for entities that promote or steward responsible policy and public investments that encourage socially and fiscally responsible outcomes.
All told, I have influenced the restructure of hundreds of millions of dollars in Oregon budgets, passage of dozens of Oregon laws and agency rulemaking, while working closely with the governor's office, legislature, agencies and stakeholders. I have strong communication and organization skills to lead, manage, and facilitate projects, campaigns, and teams . I have worked with the White House, Congress, and federal agencies to pass CAFÉ and CHP standards, green the military, and pass MAP-21. I have managed programs and projects from conception to close-out while setting priorities for different life cycle phases and preparing strategic policy, budget, legislative, and communication plans. I've managed personnel and teams at the local, state, and federal levels requiring me to develop and cultivate professional relationships. I've honed skills to research, write and present materials and reports, including strategy and vision statements, which incorporate project goals and lead to tangible outcomes. I co-founded a non-profit organization and have managed small businesses. I've lobbied government officials and industry groups for specific policy changes and financial outcomes. I met with over 100 community leaders while running 3,165 miles across the United States and learned to speak with a compelling voice to market and pitch ideas to staff, external stakeholders, and media. I can coordinate diverse coalitions, field activities, and staff. I have experience in administrative law, policy, budgets, and the ability to see the big picture and think outside the box.
TRAVEL & ADVENTURE
I have a bit of a travel and adventure bug too. In addition to exploring over forty states and forty countries, I have run across America, driven from North to South America, and summited dozens of mountains around the globe. I ran across the United States with a goal to better understand our country and the people in it. I ran to search for ways to connect individuals, support communities, and encourage improvements to our public systems. This journey resulted in speaking with over one hundred education, business, and elected community leaders. As a soccer fanatic, I drove a vehicle from the North to South America with the goal of reaching Brazil in time for the 2014 world cup. These initiatives can be seen by clicking on the tabs at the top of the page.
